The goal of the reading program is to encourage students to read for enjoyment outside of school. Research shows that the more students read, the better they become at reading. Research also shows that reading out loud to young children increases their vocabulary and language skills, two important building blocks to becoming an independent reader.

During the first semester, the Dive Into Reading program runs from September through November. Each month, grade level teachers set a reading goal with their students. Students who meet their monthly reading goal two out of the three months will participate in our December celebration.

During the second semester, the Dive Into Reading program will run from January though April. Monthly assemblies will again be held at each grade level to recognize those students who reach their reading goals. Students who meet their monthly goals three of the four months will be able to participate in our May reading celebration.
