Second grade students are required to read a certain number of books, which are embedded or associated with the reading series. When they reach their goal at the end of every quarter, the two second grades get together for some sort of reading party, which varies with the seasons, what they are reading, holidays or what they are studying. In addition, students receive "Book It" certificates and other "prizes" from a treasure chest or a "free reading night" ticket.
The Accelerated Reading program is ran separately. When students from Mrs. Thompson's classroom get 10 AR points, no matter what time of year, she takes them out to lunch. In May, if students reach 20 AR points, Mrs. Luchsinger's and Mrs. Thompson's students take a field trip to Pizza Hut, tour the store and have a pizza party. |
